Originally slotted for 2016—A Monster Calls technically opened in various countries around the world last year and on December 23 in New York and L.A.—the film opens in the UK on January 1st and in the states on January 6th. Based on the book by Patrick Ness—Ness also wrote the screenplay— the movie stars newcomer Lewis MacDougall (Pan) as Conor, Sigourney Weaver as Conor’s grandmother, Felicity Jones (Theory of Everything, Rogue One) as Conor’s mother and Toby Kebbell (War Horse) as Conor’s father. Liam Neeson is the voice of the Monster. In one of the most interesting ways to publicize a film I’ve seen, Focus Features has released a ten minute video of Neeson reading the first chapter of the book. Enjoy!
