The net is buzzing that HBO has approved a “half-hour comedy project” based on Karen Russell‘s critically acclaimed novel, Swamplandia. According to Media Bistro/Galley Cat "Producer Scott Rudin will lead the project. The debut novel focused on a teenaged alligator wrestler who takes a surreal journey through the Florida Everglades" The novel is actually based on a short story, Ava Wrestles the Alligator, originally published in Zoetrope. Congrats to this young author! Karen Russell was just 24 when the story was published and is the ripe old age of 29ish now. Last year she was chosen by the NY Times as one of their Top Twenty under Forty. Pretty high acclaim indeed!

There is a terrific review of the book in the New York Times, follow the link to read it here. It sounds like a project a ton of teen actresses (or non-teens who can play younger) will be wrestling over.
Update 11/17/2017: Except for author Karen Russell pronouncing she wants Cate Blanchett to play all the parts, there is no news. Nada.
