I was just browsing one of my favorite book blogs, As the Crowe Flies and Reads, and discovered this new one from John Green (who apparently vowed to sign 150000 copies!?). The book was released January 10 and was already number 1 on the NYTimes by the 29th! The review got my juices running and I couldn't help thinking, 'hmmm. I wonder if this will be made into a movie?' I did a little surfing and yes! Publishers Weekly reports that Fox 2000 has acquired the film rights. It's classified as Young Adult* and it's a love story of sorts about a couple of teens with cancer. Emily at As The Crowe Flies and Reads sums it up with a quote from Steel Magnolias "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion" LOVE THAT! Anyway check out her blog for more info and an amazing review.
The book is generating a lot of buzz , with people already weighing in on who should play the parts as well as whether it should be made into a movie at all! The haters just chafe at adaptations, period.
This article at Entertainment Weekly posits Shailene Woodley, who was really majestic in The Descendants, for Hazel. Some of the comments suggest Logan Lerman or Nicholas Hoult for Augustus. Lerman used to be on the TV show Jack and Bobby, was great in 3:10 to Yuma, and is in the upcoming movie based on The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I have no idea who the other guy is.
From those of you who have already read this, any thoughts on casting?
* Is it wierd to enjoy reading Young Adult fiction when one is decidedly NOT a Young Adult? Just askin'.
