GATSBY again. I couldn't resist because they just released a brand new trailer.
GATSBY boasts music from Jay Z (he is THE man behind the music in the film), Beyonce x Andre 3000, Will.I.Am, Fergie + Q-tip + Goonrock, Florence + the Machine, Emili Sande and the Bryan Ferry Orchestra, The XX, Gotye, Nero and Sia but for me it's the haunting Young and Beautiful from Lana del Rey featured in this newest trailer that stands out. It coats the whole trailer with a lovesick feverish quality that accurately reflects Gatsby and Daisy's desperation. How much of that feel is in the film is yet to be seen; but take a look at some of the titles from the soundtrack - Love Is The Drug, Over the Love, Crazy in Love, (Happy) Together, Hearts a Mess, Love is Blindness. You don't have to know the songs to get the message.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it will all play out in the actual film (vs the trailer); the only thing we do know that Luhrmann wants a contemporary score and that he's using jazz and hip-hop. Check out the playlist below for proof positive. As Luhrmann told Architectural Digest.
“Jazz was such a revolution in that era so I looked to a blend of jazz and hip-hop to help the audience understand through their own receptors what it might have been like to live during that time.”GATSBY Play List
