Torn between two lovers
Based on the book by Colm Toibin, Brooklyn starring Saoirse Ronan as a young Irish immigrant torn between the boy back home (Domhnall Gleeson) and the young man she meets in Brooklyn (Emory Cohen) opens November 6th. The cast also includes Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters
I feel like I’ve been writing about Brooklyn forever but it’s only been about a year and a half since they first started shooting and I posted some photos of of the Irish location in the spring of 2014. Nick Hornby wrote the script which would be enough to get me into the theatre even if I wasn’t already a sucker for lush period dramas.
Is there room for Brooklyn?
The film debuted this past spring at Sundance to rave reviews but there hasn’t been much effort put into keeping that buzz going. Now the movie is headed to TIFF and a few more festivals before opening in the US, the UK and Ireland on November 6th. We’ll have to wait and see how it fares against the new James Bond Spectre movie opening the same day, along with Room based on the book by Emma Donoghue. Gonna have to read that one, girding myself for the disturbing material!
